Founded in 1941, the Civil Air Patrol is a 57,000 member volunteer organization, and is the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. June 7, 2010: Civil Air
Patrol Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Timothy Neely received his official
appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in a ceremony held at
Butler Composite Squadron 712 headquarters at the Butler County Airport.
Lt. Colonel Richard Conwell, the USAFA Liaison Officer presided.
Cadet Neely, a resident of Zelienople, joined the Civil Air Patrol in
November, 2006. Most notable among his achievements are:
Billy Mitchell Award (cadet officer), CAP Solo Pilot Rating, Ground Team
Member Level 3, Cadet Basic Encampment and Cadet Executive Officer.
Cadet Neely was also a member of the Army JROTC program at Seneca Valley
High School.
Departing for the USAF Academy in mid-June, Cadet Neely says, "Civil Air
Patrol played a big part in achieving my goal to attend the Air Force
Academy." The members of Squadron 712 Butler, Group 1
(southwestern PA) and all of the Civil Air Patrol are proud of Cadet
Neely's achievement, and wish him the best for his future in the United
States Air Force.
